A goal and an assist by Curtis Huppe in fewer than 3 minutes to start the 2nd period set up a 3 goal lead from which the Manchester Phoenix would not fully reply during a 5-3 Flames road win. The win helped Spectrum’s outfit retain a share in the league lead while also clinching a cup semi-final berth. Branislav Kvetan began the evening’s offence with a goal at 10:09. Nathan Rempel doubled the lead around 4 minutes later, but a Tom Duggan strike cut the margin in half ahead of the 1st break. Just 23 seconds after the re-start, and at the close of a powerplay, Huppe re-stored the 2 goal cushion then joined Milos Melicherik in setting up Rick Plant who added another a couple minutes later to open a 4-1 spread. Martin Cingel replied on a Phoenix powerplay in the 33rd minute to bring his team back to within a pair. Only seconds into the final frame, the Phoenix drew to within 1 thanks to Ciaran Long. Unfortunately for the reigning league champions, that would be as close as they would come. In the dying moments, with Steve Fone on their bench in favour of an extra attacker, Jez Lundin slipped the puck into the empty cage to guarantee the outcome.
