Just an overtime goal away from taking the Trophy this past season, the Flames will go right back to the beginning and join the other 9 league clubs at the start line for another run at the Challenge Cup title.
The event will consist of 3 groups. The Flames will compete in the Group B round stages with Cardiff Devils and Coventry Blaze by playing 2 home and 2 away games against the pair of sides. A top 2 spot in that group guarantees a Quarter Final berth while finishing 3rd would set up a one game showdown ‘Play In’ game against the Group C 3rd placed side to determine the 8th and final quarter final qualifier.
The Quarter and Semi Finals will each be 2 Leg aggregate scoring contests and the Championship final will once again be a one game winner take all afternoon in Cardiff.
“Obviously last year getting so very close to the title was exceptionally exciting," said Paul Dixon, "but with the way it ended it was at the same time exceptionally disappointing.”
“We have shown ourselves that we can compete, and we are looking forward to trying to get ourselves back to Cardiff in March for a 2nd kick at that can.”
“The format is always exciting, especially when you get to the knockout stages, but with the potential for a ‘play in’ game that in the past might have been automatic elimination, there is going to be that little bit of extra spark fairly early in the event.”
“We are excited for the season as a whole, and it is great news here to know what our task is in terms of the Cup road.”
