Defenceman Jordan Abt will return to the Flames for a 2nd season. The 6’2”, 205lb skater joined the club last summer and iced in 67 contests where he had 6 goals and 15 points during the run to the Patton Conference title. His first season at Spectrum was also the Canadian blueliner’s first outside North America; joining Surrey’s side after 61 games with Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL in 2017-2018. The native of Leduc, Alberta also closed the 2016-2017 season in Virginia when he played 10 games immediately after completing his 5th and final term of college hockey at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
“I am really excited to be back in Guildford,” explained the 28 year old. “It’s such a great group of guys, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish this coming year.”
In 108 games at NAIT, Abt had 34 goals and 101 points and was on hand for 3 playoff titles; one in 2013 and back to back captures in 2015 and 2016, the last of which was a result of a perfect 36 win and 0 loss schedule including playoffs. During his stay at the Edmonton school, Abt was a First All-Conference team selection in 2015-2016 and added a 2nd team award the following year.
Prior to his jump to the college ranks, he spent 3 seasons, totalling 151 games, in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the bulk of his time with St. Albert Steel before a short final stretch at Drayton Valley Thunder.
“We are very happy to get Jordan back with us,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon. “He fit perfectly in the defensive group but also in the dressing room.”
“He is not a small guy so he adds a bit of a bigger presence for us, and can handle the physical parts of the game, but he can also get around the ice and is sensible with the puck.”
“Jordan is another bit of continuity from last season to now, and along with some of the new pieces we are hoping he can help us improve on last year’s good showing.”
