Alvaro added to forward group
Canadian Matt Alvaro will join the Flames when the new season gets underway. The 27 year old iced the last pair of seasons at ECHL Fort Wayne Komets where he appeared in 118 games while netting 35 goals and 81 points after debuting with Orlando Solar Bears in 19-20 when he played in 1 game following his college career and added another appearance with them during the 20-21 pandemic schedule. The 5’9”, 190lb native of Toronto, Ontario preceded his pro career with 4 seasons at NCAA University of Vermont from 2016 to 2020. In 123 career games he had 18 goals and 33 assists with his best season coming during the 2017-2018 schedule when he had 5 goals and 18 points in 28 games. Alvaro had back to back All-Star stints in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, spending 2012-2013 with Oakville Blades and 2013-2014 with St Michael’s Buzzers. After a 27 point term in 55 starts to kick off his junior career, he followed up with 16 goals and 40 points in 51 games. He spent his final pair of Jr. campaigns at USHL’s Youngstown’s Phantoms, bagging 63 points in 118 outings before making the jump to the college ranks. “Matt played the last couple of seasons with Anthony Petruzzelli so they come in as a couple of guys who already know each other which in our experience tends to help with them adjust a little quicker when they arrive,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon. “Matt was very successful with the Komets the last couple of seasons, and during his college hockey career, so he definitely adds another skilled dimension to our line up. On top of that he brings a lot of experience as a professional and from his college days, including leadership qualities as demonstrated by his selection as a Captain at Vermont and in his final junior year.” “He is a great addition to the club and we look forward to seeing him here next month.” |
