April 2nd v Fife Flyers - League

Ian McNulty had a pair of goals and Taz Burman pitched a shutout as the Flames closed the regular season schedule with a 5-0 win over the visiting Fife Flyers.

Ryan Tait got the night started when he bagged a short handed goal at 8:07 and McNulty continued the special teams scoring on a 12th minute powerplay to take a 2-0 lead into the middle frame.

Early in the 2nd, a Tristan Frei strike gave the home team a 3 goal spread they nursed into the 3rd.

McNulty’s 2nd at 49:46 was followed less than 2 minutes later by Peter Crinella to push Flames to the final 5 goal difference that eliminates Flyers from the upcoming playoff competition while Flames get set to take on Nottingham Panthers in the 2 game aggregate quarter final event next weekend.

Burman turned aside 25 shots for the clean sheet while Shane Owen was 36 for 41.

“We were disappointed with how we played last night at Belfast so this helped us put that aside,” explained Paul Dixon.

“We also wanted to put in a good showing ahead of the playoffs next weekend and we can certainly start training this week in a positive frame of mind coming off of our final regular season win.”

“We have had a great season and we really want to get something done in the playoffs.  There is a lot to play for here, so we look forward to a good week of practice and then tough series against Nottingham Panthers starting Saturday on the road then Sunday back at Spectrum.
