April 6th v Glasgow Clan - Playoff Quarter Final Leg 1
Official Reports

A home ice 3rd period Playoff Quarter Final fight back put the Flames in a better spot than the game start when they found themselves back by 3 less than 25 minutes in but a couple of strikes in the 3rd puts them just a goal off the pace heading to Glasgow Clan for Sunday’s 2nd leg.

Just 31 seconds into the contest, Glasgow took a lead when a room service deflection off a Flames stick set perfectly for Scott Pitt to blast home the opener.  61 seconds before the end of the frame the visitors went ahead by a pair thanks to Rasmus Bjerrum.

It got a little worse for Spectrum’s men when a Gerard Hanson goal less than 5 minutes into the 2nd had the Flames in a 3-goal hole at the close of the set.

An early 3rd period 4-minute powerplay helped the home team get off the mark when Jesse Craige snapped home their starter 1 second from the end of the 1st powerplay.  Ian Watters was able to successfully deposit a loose puck just at the end of the 2nd man advantage and suddenly Surrey’s men were just a goal adrift in the 47th minute which is how things timed out through the close of the evening.

“That 1st period was certainly not what we had planned for the 1st 20 minutes,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“There is no sugar-coating that opening. We did not start well, and Glasgow absolutely dominated us for a lot of that period, and maybe we were lucky to be only down by a couple at that stage.”

“The thing that always carries us through these situations is that this group will never, ever roll over and give up, and as the game went on we started to really put pressure on them. It was a matter of time before we finally got one.”

“It was a good show by us to pull ourselves back into it.  We always sort of look at the 2 leg deal in terms of being tied, up a goal or down a goal heading to leg 2 as situations where it is still anyone’s to win, and when you look at it like that we are heading out on the road tomorrow still in with a great chance to come home with success.”
