6’5”, 220lb Defenceman Corbin Baldwin will be back for a 2nd season with the Flames. The 28 year old made his European debut at Spectrum last season when he iced all 74 times while scoring a goal and 10 assists to go with 88 penalty minutes.
Prior to helping Surrey’s men to the Patton Conference title, the Canadian born skater spent 3 terms with ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads, his best season coming in 2015-2016 when he had 3 goals and 20 points in 72 starts. In 3 full Steelhead Stints, plus parts of a couple more with Alaska Aces in 2014-2015 and Orlando Solar Bears in 2012-2013, the native of Winnipeg, Manitoba iced 302 times while posting 67 points and 434 penalty minutes. In 2013-2014, after a taste of the American Hockey League on 4 nights the year prior, Baldwin spent the bulk of the season at that level where he appeared in 64 games with Iowa Wild and added 16 more the following campaign.
Ahead of the move to the pro game, Baldwin played 4 seasons of Major Junior with Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. His best term was his last in 2011-2012 when he had 6 goals and 27 assists in 69 starts to close his development numbers on 248 games, 11 goals, 66 points and 379 penalty minutes. He also played in 39 playoff games across his Jr. activity.
“Corbin came in last season and was just as he was advertised,” admitted Head Coach Paul Dixon.
“He is a bigger body for sure, and he plays a physical, gritty type game that was a welcome addition to our group.”
“He is not a flashy type guy who puts up big numbers, but he does a lot of really good stuff that isn’t counted in the box score.”
“One area where he really excelled was in terms of his value as a penalty killer. He gets in lanes, he has enormous reach, he blocks shots and just generally hampers an opposition's ability to set up clear opportunities.”
“He is also a great personality who fit very well into the line up and we are pleased to have him back with us for another season.”
