Ben O'Connor with GB during Cup semi final
When Flames and Glasgow Clan clash 2nd leg of the Cup Semi Final, Spectrum’s men will do so without the services of Defenceman Ben O’Connor who has been called to GB national team duty.
“Unlike the coming weekend games where the league intended to play through the international break, there was a scheduling clash for the semi final that could not be avoided,” explained Kirk Humphreys.
“The designed dates for the semi final were meant to be Jan 24th and 31st. The initial hope was to visit Clan on Jan 21st for a league game that they graciously swapped to Leg 1 of the Cup then return to Spectrum on Jan 24th when we had building availability.”
“Unfortunately, with existing schedule changes that had preceded the Cup, Clan were already engaged in a game that could not be moved from 24th and Spectrum had an event on 31st that precluded us from playing at home.”
“With the semi final needing to be completed and us already on road the midweek that follows, 7th was the only option available to get it in the books early enough for the eventual host to begin Cup final ticket sales.”
“It’s unfortunate, but Glasgow is in the same position with each of us losing a player to the international break so on a relative basis neither team is unduly disadvantaged.”
“On that basis, and the game beginning from a leg 1 scoreless tie, a place in the trophy game is entirely up for grabs by both teams which should make it an exciting night.”
