Crocock, Locke and Yuill Return

A trio of Canadian Defencemen Mike Crocock, Alex Yuill and Kyle Locke will return for a 2nd season with the Flames.

5’10”, 185lb Crocock spent half of last season at ECHL Reading Royals before joining Flames for 36 games where he had 3 goals and 8 points.  The 27-year-old spent 4 seasons at NCAA Sacred Heart University from 2014-2019, where he iced 130 times and had 4 goals and 17 assists. The native of Brantford, Ontario began his pro career at SPHL’s Birmingham Bulls immediately following his final college season in 2018-2019.  He played 14 games including playoffs then began the next season in the same place before his first ECHL appearance with Newfoundland Growlers and Reading in 2019-2020 ahead of his first overseas stint in Sweden’s HockeyEttan with Tranås AIF for 2020-2021.

26-year-old Yuill iced 68 Flames games last season, scoring 3 goals and 14 assists after 5 seasons with USports Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.  In his final term, the 5’8”, 170lb skater posted 3 goals and 17 points in 28 appearances ahead of a goal and a helper in 3 playoff starts.  Across his collegiate stay, the native of Wellington, Ontario played 140 games, scoring 12 goals and 69 points. During his penultimate term he was selected to Canada’s team for the World University games where he had 2 points in 7 tournament games.

6’1”, 210lb Kyle Locke also had a 68 game debut last season with 5 goals and 16 points, while leading the club in penalty minutes with 136.  The 26-year-old iced his previous 4 terms at Ontario Tech.  In 4 USports seasons, Locke played 95 games while scoring 6 goals and 24 points.

“On most nights we were pretty comfortable with what we saw from our defensive group, and we are pleased to get these 3 guys to sign back on for next season.”

“Mike is an elite skater, and he had an impact from the moment he stepped into the lineup in the New Year, and he is very effective at puck retrieval and getting turned around to move us back up the ice.”

“Alex just plays a smart game, and he simply does not make all that many mistakes.  He moves the puck to the right places, he is not easily beat anywhere on the ice and he is just generally in the right place at the right time.”

“Kyle is a bigger body, and offers a very solid physical presence, but he is a good skater too and is not at all out of place handling or moving the puck.”

“We were very happy with each of these guys, and I am not even sure we have seen the best of them yet. They are all still relatively young, and both Alex and Kyle were new to the pro game while Mike did not have the benefit of being here for the full season so we have every expectation that all of them will be even better with us in 22-23, and we are absolutely excited to have all of the return.”
