December 5th v Cardiff Devils - League

After striking out on 4 previous occasions against Cardiff Devils, all of those in Cup play, the Flames finally got a leg up on the Welsh side by getting into a 2 goal lead, then hanging on after a late reply for a 2-1 home ice win.

After a scoreless opening frame, and then a little more than 10 minutes of no scoring in the middle set, Robert Lachowicz put the Flames in a lead they held into the 3rd.

Jake Bolton on a powerplay at 49:03 gave Flames a bit of breathing room.  They needed it late, as things turned out, when a 58th minute Tristan Frei major for checking from behind put Cardiff on a powerplay that they augmented by pulling their netminder to make it a 6 on 4 advantage. With the extra manpower, Brodie Reid cut their deficit at 58:10, but they were unable to find another before the evening timed out on the Flames success.

“I thought the guys were fantastic from start to finish tonight,” said Paul Dixon. “It was a really important game after losing last night and not having picked up any points last weekend so all credit to these guys for putting it down on the ice and getting just what we need.”

“Now we have our first road doubleheader next weekend and that in itself will be a new challenge for these guys.”

“We will put together a good plan for a week of training and see what we can do to pull off some points at Nottingham and then at Glasgow.”
