February 17th at Coventry Blaze - League

3

Final

2

After taking an early 2 goal lead, Taran Kozun and the rest of the Coventry Blaze shut the Flames down the rest of the way as they replied with 3 straight to deliver a 3-2 win over the visitors from Spectrum.

Peter Crinella on the powerplay at 2:47 and Lewis Hook just before the 10 minute mark had Flames in a multi goal lead, but a late Ian McNulty reply cut Coventry’s  deficit before the period was over.

John Curran converted another Blaze powerplay when he netted at 26:18 to pull it square at 2 apiece and Blake Thompson had the winner near the 3rd period halfway mark.

Taz Burman made 22 saves on 25 shots while Kozun was 33 for 35.

“We probably don’t want to be in the penalty box for 12 minutes out of every game and tonight it was costly giving up a couple of goals on the powerplay,” said Paul Dixon.

“The other thing that we have mentioned what seems like countless times this season is getting in front by a couple of goals early and not finding a way to turn that to our advantage across the evening.”

“It was early on so it is not like you are trying to see the game out from that point and just hold them the rest of the night to 1 goal, but you don’t want to let another team off the hook in that situation and we did that tonight.”

“Credit to them for hanging in and pushing back to get themselves back in the game, something they have been able to do all year long.  We get another chance tomorrow night we will get back to it and see if we can grab a win from Sheffield’s visit.”
