February 18th v Sheffield Steelers - League

2

Final

4

The league’s summit holding Sheffield Steelers scored three unanswered goals, including an empty netter, in the last 10 minutes to move past a 3rd period 2-1 deficit on their way to a 4-2 win over the Flames on Spectrum ice.

Marc-Olivier Vallerand set Steelers to a lead when he converted a powerplay at 14:16, but Steven McParland pulled it level ahead of the break a little over 2 minutes later.

Inside the last 2 minutes of the 2nd, Flames went to a 5 on 3 powerplay and with just 7 seconds left in the frame, McParland buried his 2nd of the contest to allow Spectrum’s men to begin the 3rd up a goal.

Unfortunately for Flames faithful, Mikko Juusola levelled it just beyond the 50 minute mark and a few minutes after that the league leaders bagged the winner off the stick of Josh Nicholls before Colton Saucerman added the uncontested final strike of the night as the home team tried to square it with an extra skater.

Taz Burman made 23 saves on 26 shots against Matt Greenfield who turned away 26 of 28.

“It is unfortunate to have lost that one because I thought we actually played pretty well,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“We played much better than we have for the last couple of games and certainly it would have been nice to have something to show for it coming out of that game.”

“We have to get ready for Wednesday night at Glasgow so we can’t focus too much on the outcome but we can take a lot of good things from this game and if we can repeat it again in the games ahead we stand a much better chance for success.”
