Levi Cable and Ian Watters each had a pair of goals, and 4 others had singles as the Flames scored early and never looked back on the way to an 8-2 home ice win over Glasgow Clan.
Spectrum’s men took a lead less than 7 minutes in with a Watters strike then at 11:24, just seconds into a powerplay, Cable made it a 2 goal edge they enjoyed the start the middle frame.
Flames had to kill off a couple of early period penalties before getting back on the attack where Ian McNulty made it a 3 goal lead in the 29th minute and 46 seconds from period close Chris Gerrie made it a 4 goal gap.
On the 2nd Flames powerplay of the 3rd period, Brett Ferguson connected to make it 5-0 at 43:45. Clan made a netminding swap and replaced Shane Starrett with Jordan McLaughlin but not long after that Cable had them up by 6. Clan hit back with a Mathieu Roy strike at 48:29, but less than a minute later Flames were up by 6 again when Jordan Cownie found the net. Watters had his 2nd at 54:47 and Clan had their closing strike, Roy’s 2nd, 27 seconds from time.
“We have been there ourselves, so we know what a tough task it is for a team that has some adversity during a long trip like Clan had with weather and road blockages giving them far less than ideal conditions in which to get started on a night that ends up being a late puck drop,” explained Paul Dixon.
“Having said that, I was pleased we were able to get after them right away, and unlike some previous games we were rewarded for a good early effort with a couple of goals and that makes a huge difference to the rest of the evening playing ahead instead of from behind.”
“You rarely get 8 so hopefully we can use this as a big confidence booster going forward to try and find a bit more offence in the weeks ahead.”
