On home ice, the Flames had a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes then scored a last minute empty netter to hold off the 3rd period Glasgow Clan reply during a 4-2 win over the Scottish club.
Spectrum’s men had a quick start when Jamie Crooks put them on the board just over 2 minutes into the evening. Despite a 17-8 shot advantage, that was the only distance they could put between themselves and Clan before the close of the frame.
At 23:38 TJ Foster delivered a cross ice feed that Calle Ackered promptly put away for a 2-0 spread then Ben Davies extended it to 3 halfway through the contest.
Clan closed the gap early in the 3rd with a Scott Tanski strike and his 2nd of the night inside the back half of the period has his side just a goal adrift down the final stretch. Just over 2 minutes out Clan replaced their netminder with an extra skater to try and pull level, but the plan failed when John Dunbar scored on the empty cage 48 seconds from the buzzer to secure the win.
“I thought we were good value for the lead we created,” said Paul Dixon. “We were pressing well, and creating some good chances.”
“Even when they managed to get the early 3rd period goal back we had some good shifts where we missed opportunities to extend the lead again, but it was a great relief to see the empty netter cross the line to ensure we got the win.”
