February 5th at Fife Flyers - League

After Flames squared it early in the 2nd, Fife Flyers went ahead for good with a couple of 2nd period strikes to eventually deliver a 4-2 defeat of Spectrum’s men despite trailing the visitors on the shot clock by a 39-23 count.

Flyers opened their ledger just 72 seconds into the evening when Matt Carter had them in a lead they held over into the middle frame.

At 24:49, while on a powerplay, Chris Gerrie pulled the visitors back onto even terms, but only for 50 seconds when Jacob Benson had Fife in front again before Jonas Emmerdahl installed a 2 goal spread in the 31st minute.

Inside the last 5 minutes of the 3rd, a Flyers major penalty helped Flames add an extra skater in lieu of Kevin Lindskoug to skate at a 6 men to 4 advantage where Ian Watters pulled his side within a single at 58:16, but as they tried to push again for the equalizer, Benson bagged an empty netter to guarantee the home team’s win.

“We left ourselves too much to do in the 3rd period and not quite enough earlier on in the game.  We spent nearly the entire final 20 minutes in Fife’s end, but we couldn’t get all the way back,” said Paul Dixon.

“We are going to have to pick ourselves up and get ready for tomorrow right away here because that game has now become even more important.”

“We didn’t come all this way to go home entirely empty handed, and I am asking these guys for a full 60 minute response when we take to Dundee’s ice tomorrow night which is the only chance we have of getting anything from that game.”
