February 6th at Dundee Stars - League

3

Final (PS)

4

The game was late starting because of a wheel issue with the Flames coach, but it didn’t derail their evening entirely as Jamal Watson and Jake Bolton scored on penalties to secure a 4-3 win at Dundee Stars.

Flames had an early 2 goal lead with Ian McNulty and Robert Lachowicz goals less than a minute apart just over halfway through the opening frame.

In the 27th minute, Timi Lathinen cut Dundee’s deficit in half, but John Dunbar re-stored the 2 goal spread at 33:37, and the visitors held that advantage into the 3rd.

Stars were able to bring it fully even with 2 goals just 17 seconds apart starting at 47:37 on the powerplay through Charlie Combs and an immediate Philippe Sanche follow up that forced overtime, then tiebreaking shots where Watson and Bolton were on target while Kevin Lindskoug limited Stars to a single Sebastian Bengtsson marker.

“It was certainly an eventful day for us scrambling to make alternative emergency arrangements just to get over to Dundee from Fife,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon, “then getting ahead on them early but losing a lead created quite an up and down experience and an anxious finish, but everyone handled all those situations as well as they could and we got there in the end,” explained Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“We are thrilled with the win, especially after having the puck a great deal in overtime without being able to finish, and being forced to decide it with hockey’s answer to a coin flip on penalties where it can literally go either way just on fate.”

“It will make the long ride home feel a lot better and we will get back to training early this week to try and re-set for Fife and Coventry coming up.”
