Flames sign Jake Coughler Flames have added forward Jake Coughler. The 28 year old Canadian spent last season at DEL2 Lausitzer Füchse where he posted 12 goals and 25 points in 48 starts ahead of a 7 point playoff haul in 9 post season games. The 6’1”, 190lb skater made his EIHL debut at the end of the 21-22 season when he joined Cardiff Devils from Danish side Odense Bulldogs. In 33 games at Devils, he scored 21 goals and 14 assists while helping them to the playoff title and followed up in 22-23 with 13 goals and 23 points in 31 games before 2 goals and an assist in 4 playoff starts. Coughler made his pro debut in the 2019-2020 season in Slovakia at HK Dukla Trencin before returning to ECHL Orlando Solar Bears. He remained with them for the 20-21 set, and totalled 27 goals and 45 points in 58 appearances over the stretch before heading off to Denmark. Prior to turning pro, the native of St Catharines spent a couple of seasons at USports St Mary’s University between 2017 and 2019. He was an Atlantic conference rookie of the year his first season thanks to 13 goals and 34 points in 30 starts as part of 27 goals and 36 assists in 60 career appearances. In Junior, Coughler spent 215 games with QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques, Charlottetown Islanders and Halifax Mooseheads. He completed his development career with 65 goals and 125 points. “As we have said a few times already, we struggled around the net last season, and we have worked to try and correct that with the way we have gone about recruiting,” said Paul Dixon. “Jake has been successful offensively wherever he has been and we know he will be able to help push us forward in that regard also.” “He has already proven himself in this league on top of everywhere else, and we are excited to plug him into our line up with other similarly skilled forwards and see what they can do.” |
