Griffiths Returns for 3rd Term
Owen Griffiths will return to the Flames. In 52 starts last season, the Cardiff native had 2 goals and 7 assists plus a couple of goals in the playoff quarter final series. This will mark his 3rd consecutive season with the club, save for the 15 game Covid break Elite series the 5’10”, 185lb skater spent with Nottingham Panthers in 2021. In 121 appearances in Flames gear, the 25 year old has 12 goals, 16 assists and 28 points. The former GB Under 20 skater’s first full time EIHL stint came in 2018-2019 when he had 16 points in 62 games with Milton Keynes Lightning after a pair of terms at Premier and National League Peterborough Phantoms from 2016 to 2018 where he collected 29 goals and 48 assists across 96 starts.
Including a handful of appearances with his hometown Devils in 2013-2014, the Welsh national has played 199 games at the country’s top level in addition to more than 200 senior credits with National League Devils, Wightlink Raiders, Swindon Wildcats and Phantoms.
Griffiths iced for GB Under 18s in 2013-2014 and was with the Bronze medal winning Under 20’s in 2015-2016 where he registered a goal in 4 world championship games.
“Owen really came into his own last season and is turning into a very reliable player at this level,” said Paul Dixon.
“He is not going to be a guy who lights up the statistical counts, but he goes out and does his job, checks closely, provides top tier penalty killing and just generally puts in a good effort shift after shift.”
“He had an excellent year last season, and we are looking forward to watching him progress with the confidence foundation that his this past season should afford him.”
