Woking born Mac Howlett will return to his hockey roots when he joins the Flames for the upcoming term. The 21 year old and former Great Britain Under 18 and 20 forward is a Guildford Jr alumnus, last icing at Spectrum in 2011-2012 with the U16 Firestars. Ahead of his jump to the senior ranks, Howlett iced his final pair of junior seasons with Finnish club Saipa U18 and 20’s.
Howlett played 7 games last season at ES Weißwasser U23 German side where he posted 4 goals and 19 points before moving on to Coventry Blaze for the EIHL series where he had a goal in 14 starts. He spent the previous pair of campaigns with Glasgow Clan with whom he helped to the 18-19 EIHL Gardiner Conference title. In 123 League and Cup encounters from 2018 to 2020, the 5’10”, 190lb skater has 4 goals and 9 points.
Internationally, in 20 games wearing GB colours, Howlett has back to back U20 Bronze medals as well as 3 goals and 13 points split nearly evenly between U18 and 20 world championship events.
“We were certainly very interested when Mac expressed an interest in moving back South,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon.
“It is pretty fascinating to think he took part in our summer hockey camps and I had the opportunity to coach him back then when he was just a young boy. It is not often that situation presents itself. Even back then he stood out from other kids because he could skate very well."
“Between his skating and a good skill set there is a lot potential upside that over the next few years where he could really become a top level domestically trained player. It is exciting to put him back in Flames colours to see where he goes from here.”
