January 19th v Coventry Blaze - League

Flames and Coventry Blaze took a point each through a 2-2 regulation tie at Spectrum, but it was the visitors who picked up the extra when they scored at 63:43 to take the result.

Blaze had the only goal of the 1st thanks to Evan Bloodoff whose 15th minute strike had then in the lead when the period closed.

Less than 3 minutes into the 2nd, the home team pulled even through Calle Ackered and then survived a video review on what looked like a late period Blaze go ahead goal, and the clubs went to the final set square on a goal each.

Inside the final 10 minutes, TJ Foster offered Surrey’s side their first lead of the contest but with less than 4 minutes to play Andrew Johnston stuffed away a rebound to knot it at 2 and send the game to extra time where Justin Hache had the decider.

“It’s tough to lose ones where you felt you had enough of the play to win, and where you were in the lead with just few minutes remaining,” said Paul Dixon.

“We are in a real table race with Coventry and you don’t like to let any of those important head to head points slip away.”

“This is exactly kind of game we are going to have to figure out a way to win on the final run into the playoffs.  We were not able to do that tonight, but hopefully we can take a few of the lessons from what was generally a pretty good game by us, and figure out a way to translate that to future success.”
