January 28th at Coventry Blaze - League

Final (PS)

After 9 penalty shooters all failed to make a mark, Coventry’s last shot by Evan Bloodoff secured Blaze’s extra point with a 4-3 penalty win over the visiting Flames who also take home a point from the extra long road affair.

An Ian Watters powerplay goal right near the 1st period midway point put Flames in front, but Blaze hit back just at the end of their own powerplay when Justin Hamonic netted at 14:16 and a goal each was how the clubs lined up for the middle frame.

Janne Laakonen had Blaze in front early in the 2nd, but Ian McNulty’s powerplay goal at 30:35 squared it.  Blaze went ahead again in the 34th minute through Nathaniel Halbert, but Flames knotted at 3 each 64 seconds from period time when Levi Cable was on target and that closed out the scoring until 3 on 3 overtime then penalties and Bloodoff’s decider.

“Another good game with Coventry, bit of back and forth and probably suitable that we shared points, but obviously we would have liked to have been the team to get the extra,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“When you get to penalties you are flipping a coin, and in this case two great goaltending displays meant that we had to wait to the very end for one person to finally slip one through which was inevitable eventually.”

“We bank the point and now re-group for tomorrow in Glasgow.”
