January 29th at Glasgow Clan - League

Final (OT)

For the 2nd night in a row, Flames found themselves on the road in overtime, but on this occasion, 64 seconds from penalties, Chris Gerrie collected the winner as Spectrum’s men board the bus home with a 3 point weekend haul thanks to a 2-1 win over Glasgow Clan.

By the time the game was 10 minutes old, each team already had a goal with Guillaume Gauthier sending Clan in front at 4:12 and Jamal Watson replying just over 5 minutes later, but it was not an indication of a high scoring affair as both clubs failed to connect again through the opening 40 minutes of play.

Shortly into the 3rd, Flames took the first penalty for either team when Mac Howlett sat for delay of game but Flames were able to dispatch without any damage. About halfway through the frame, Flames went down a man for a 2nd time, but a Clan infraction put the sides to 4 on 4, but again nothing to change the goal count. In the end,  nothing in the remaining regulation time altered the outcome and a 4th period was needed for Gerrie to end it.

“We have been in a lot of overtimes this season, and not had any kind of good luck in most of them, so picking up a win here in the extra period certainly will make the ride home a lot nicer for all of us,” admitted Paul Dixon.

“It was a pretty even game with a lot of good things from the goalie out for both teams. It is sort of an odd schedule with us doing the Friday, Saturday trip and no game tomorrow, so we can enjoy this win for a day and then start to look at our plans for next weekend when we come back to Scotland for the double at Fife and at Dundee.”
