January 4th at Sheffield Steelers - League

Steelers scored a pair of goals in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd to convert a 1-1 tie into a 6-2 defeat of Spectrum’s men on the road at Sheffield.

Ian Watters opened the scoring at 7:41 but Brendan Connolly replied a little over a minute later and the teams began the 2nd at 1 apiece.

Steelers jumped in front by a pair before the game was halfway through thanks to powerplay goals by Nikolai Lemtyugov and Lucas Sandstrom less than 2 minutes apart at 27:48 and 29:47.  A Flames penalty shot right after that was a chance to cut the deficit, but Jamie Crooks was unable to tighten the score and the period closed with the home team on the 2 goal difference.

Things got away from the visitors early in the 3rd when the Yorkshire outfit extended their cushion not long after re-start with a Tanner Eberle strike, and a penalty shot goal by Anthony Deluca had them in full command by the 44th minute. They added a Josef Hrabel follow up at 47:21 before Jamie Crooks trimmed the final deficit just over 7 minutes from time.

“That’s a tough night to think about all the way home,” said Paul Dixon.

“This is a difficult stretch right now, but we have to find a way through this and we have a chance to get back to it tomorrow night against Dundee on home ice.  This group has responded before to difficult periods, and I expect they will do so again and will be ready when puck drops tomorrow night.”
