Dunbar Player of Week
John Dunbar is the latest winner of the Elite League Player of the Week award for week ending 28th October 2018.
The 27-year-old had a productive week, notching seven points as Flames picked up three wins out of three against the teams who finished first, second and third last season.
And head coach Paul Dixon paid tribute to his forward after an impressive haul of points as his team continued to get some excellent results.
“John has had a great start to the season and has really helped spark his line and the powerplay,” he said.
“Our game is crafted around speed and skill and John is obviously a big part of that and he has played well. To me, he’s a deserving winner of the award.”
Dunbar played a part in each of Guildford’s three goals on Wednesday, assisting in all of them as they edged Sheffield Steelers 3-2 at the Spectrum.
They went to Cardiff Devils on Challenge Cup duty and Dunbar added to his tally with the late empty net goal and another assist in a 5-3 win over Andrew Lord’s side.
Then there was another two assists in a 4-0 home shutout win over Manchester Storm, making it an impressive seven-point haul for the forward.
It’s the second time he has won the award, picking it up just over a year ago, but it’s the first recipient from Guildford this season.
Their form has seen them in fifth place, just two points behind Cardiff in the Elite League standings and through to the last eight in the Challenge Cup.
This weekend, they face Milton Keynes Lightning in a double header, going to MK for a league clash on Saturday before completing their Challenge Cup programme at home on Sunday.
