March 13th v Nottingham Panthers - League

Final (OT)

Flames had to tie it from a goal down 4 times on Sunday night, and never had a lead through 60 minutes, but got the home ice win just under 3 minutes into overtime when Levi Cable bagged the decider against the Nottingham Panthers.

The guests went to the first break with a lead when Massimo Carozza bookended an Ian Mcnulty single late in the period, with all 3 goals spanning a little more than a 2 minute stretch.

In the 26th minute, Flames squared it through Jordan Cownie.  Panthers re-stored a lead near the midway mark thanks to Kevin Domingue but a late frame Jake Bolton powerplay strike set up a winner take all finish.

In the 3rd, Panthers edged in front through Robbie Baillargeon before the period was halfway through, but for the 4th time on the evening, Flames squared it when Ian Watters scored at 52:18. Back to back Flames powerplays down the stretch failed to solve the evening so overtime was required where Cable made the difference.

“I thought we did enough to win that one in regulation at some point, but we just kept finding ourselves behind despite how we were playing,” observed Paul Dixon.

“The guys deserve a lot of credit for not only playing very well for 60+ minutes, but also for persistence in our response when we did get behind and then going on to do what we had to do in overtime to complete a 4 point weekend.”

“It’s an exciting way to close out these two games but not a lot of time to think much about it with a job to do on Tuesday during a visit to Glasgow.  Hopefully we can put together a result there too.”
