March 22nd v Fife Flyers - League

A pair of Flames goals in the 3rd period, the winner by Levi Cable, helped the Flames break a 2-2 tie and close the evening on a 4-2 win over the visiting Fife Flyers.

Flyers were on the board first at 10:19 through Greg Chase.  Flames tied it a few minutes later with a John Dunbar strike, but just 5 seconds from period time Flyers took another lead with a Matt Carter goal.

In the back half of the 2nd period, during a 5 on 3 powerplay, Jamal Watson squared it at a pair each and the knotted scoreline held up into the final set.

At 51:10, just at the expiry of a Flames powerplay, Cable nudged Flames in front 3,2. In the final minute, Flyers pulled their netminder Shane Owen in favour of an extra skater, then a Flames delay of game penalty with 25 seconds on the clock put them 4 skaters against 6, but Watson’s 2nd of the contest into an empty cage 2 seconds from the end relieved the pressure and sealed the win.

“Fresh off the last game where we had a great deal of the territorial play, and not a lot of scoring, you couldn’t fault anyone for wondering if we were going to repeat that,” explained Paul Dixon.

“Thankfully we were able to wait it out and finally get an advantage that helped us push forward and eventually hold on to the win.”

“We got a lot of shots and a lot of good opportunities so we were certainly full credit for a win that the guys deserve.”

“Games keep coming and now it is off to Glasgow on Thursday then back home Saturday, both games important head to head action in the playoff race.”
