March 24th v Coventry Blaze - League

Having ended regulation on 4 goals each with Coventry Blaze on Spectrum ice, the Flames found themselves in a 3 on 3 overtime period for the 2nd night in a row, only this time fate went their way with a Jesse Craige powerplay goal at 62:10 to secure a 5-4 win.

It didn’t take long for Blaze to get on the board with their starter by Luke Ferrara less than 2 minutes into the contest, but Richard Krogh’s 1st ever Elite League goal levelled it near the period’s midway mark and Erik Lindhagen’s 14th minute strike had the home team up by a single as the opening segment timed out.

Just 70 seconds into the 2nd, however, Blaze squared it on the back of a Thom Flodqvist marker and Shawn Pauly put them back in a lead at 31:22.  Jamie Crooks re-stored complete parity at 36:21, but less than a minute later Blaze had a frame closing advantage thanks to Dillon Lawrence.

A little over 5 minutes into the 3rd, John Dunbar had the clubs on an exactly even split of 8 goals and ultimately guaranteed a Flames point ahead of a 4th frame and the captain’s heroics.

“That’s a big win not just in terms of the result itself, but also a real show of the character of this team,” said Paul Dixon.

“With 15 minutes to go in our 3rd game in 3 nights down by a goal, it would have been pretty easy to throw it in neutral and coast to the finish line, but this team never seems to toss in the towel.  When you can persevere in that way sometimes good things happen and it did so tonight.”

“These were valuable points, putting us in a much better spot heading into the final couple of games, and certainly I am sure the guys will be in high spirits when we get back to training ahead Saturday’s visit to Panthers.”
