November 11th v Nottingham Panthers - League

A solid night in the net by Mike Garnett and the Panthers winner halfway through the 3rd period that unlocked a 1-1 tie helped snap a Flames 7 game winning streak as Nottingham skated away from Spectrum with a 4-1 win.

Shortly after an expired Powerplay, about halfway through the 1st period, the Flames kept the pressure on and Ben Davies succeeded in staking the home team to a lead which remained on the board through the frame despite chances at both ends in the time that followed.

The 2nd period reflected the exact same scoring, only this time the visitors levelled when Ollie Betteridge netted just under 5 minutes into the stanza but by the time 40 minutes was in the books the teams were still sharing an even split of the slow offensive night.

Back to back 3rd period penalties had the Flames on the defensive and they did get through the shorthanded stretch still square at a goal each but a few minutes after that Jaynen Rissling got the breakthrough and put his side in the lead for good with a tick over 10 minutes to play.   Less than 4 minutes from time a Luke Pither strike guaranteed the final outcome and Alex Guptill closed out the score with an empty netter inside the final 2 minutes.

“We have done well of late and we can’t complain much about our results, but we didn’t do enough to get a win tonight and the Panthers definitely deserved the points,” admitted Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“In the 2nd period they had a 5 or 6 minute run when they had about 3 or 4 little 2 on 1’s in a row just outside the net and we were probably lucky to still have been in front at that stage.”

“In the 3rd we didn’t have a lot of answers for them, and there was no reply to them getting in front and they piled on from there.”

“When we did have our chances they got excellent goaltending and full value to them for a strong road game and stopping us from adding an 8th win on the bounce.”

“We will forget about this, pick up this week and get back to training for a Manchester Storm double on the way next weekend.”
