The Flames scored 6 times on the powerplay, including 1 as part of 4 unanswered in the final period to pull away from Manchester during an 8-3 home win over the Storm.
Kruise Reddick opened the scoring just over 3 minutes in with the extra man, but a pair of Storm answers, the first by Evan Richardson at 7:17 and the next one by Dane Byers at 17:02 had the visitors in the lead at the break.
Ian Watters squared it on an early 2nd period powerplay and Kevin King put the Flames in front with another outnumbered opportunity in the 24th minute. A John Dunbar man advantage marker a little more than 3 minutes from period close had the Flames up a pair to start the 3rd.
The Storm cut into their deficit 71 seconds into the last frame when Ciaran Long netted shorthanded, but a Ben Davies goal just under 3 minutes later and a Jamie Crooks follow up not long after that had Spectrum’s men in command at 6-3. Dunbar’s 2nd powerplay goal of the contest in the 53rd minute preceded the evening’s closing powerplay counter by TJ Foster at 56:50.
“We have fallen short a couple of times recently, and only scored 3 goals in the previous pair of games so we will certainly take this for the win and for the offensive production,” offered Head Coach Paul Dixon.
“Last night was tough being just a few minutes away from at least a point, so we are really pleased with the outcome here.”
“It certainly puts us in a better frame of mind heading to Coventry on Wednesday night, and hopefully it is a fresh injection of confidence throughout the line up.”
