Guildford Flames travelled to Fife Flyers Saturday night and scored at least 2 goals in each period to end the evening with a pair of Elite League table points thanks to a 7-4 win over the Scottish side.
Flames got an early start on the scoring with Brett Ferguson’s opener at 2:18. Flyers replied 55 seconds later through Maxim Musorov, but an 11th minute Charlie Dodero strike sent the visitors to break with a slim one goal lead.
Early in the 2nd, Daniel Catenacci turned the tables on a Flyers powerplay when he bagged a short-handed marker to make it 3-1, but a quick reply less than 2 minutes later off the stick of Mihcael Cichy pulled the hosts within a single. Flames re-stored the 2 goal difference, however, when Ethan Strang was on target for their 4th at 34:18.
Cichy’s 2nd of the contest at 42:57 pulled Flyers to 4-3, but Sean Norris extended again a couple minutes later. That pattern repeated at 47:50 when Phelix Martineau again made it a one goal affair, but Catenacci’s 2nd just outside the last half of the frame had Flames again enjoying a 2 goal gap that they eventually expanded for the final time with Strang’s 2nd into an empty net a little under 2 minutes from close.
Jake Kupsky guarded the Flames cage and made 38 saves on 42 shots while Janis Voris was 30 of 36 for Fife.
“You never want to travel this far for a game and come home empty handed so we are certainly happy to make our way home with a set of table points from a building that is not often kind to us,” said Paul Dixon.
“The play was back and forth for large sections of the game and we were able to make some chances count at good times to just stay in front of them for most of the evening.”
“The points are banked now so time to start looking at what we can do to solve Sheffield Steelers who are among the top teams in Europe at the moment. It is a long drive back now before Sunday’s game but I know we will be up for it when puck drops Sunday at Spectrum.
