October 20th at Nottingham Panthers - League

4

Final

3

On the road, the Flames were 2 for 2 on the powerplay and came back from a 2 goal deficit, but were struck down by the odd goal in 7 as Nottingham Panthers handed Spectrum’s men a 4-3 road defeat.

The visitors took an early lead with what turned out to be the only goal of the frame when Jordan Cownie converted a powerplay less than 6 minutes in.

At 28:58, Panthers drew level off the stick of Mark Matheson. They went in front by a single dead on 33 minutes when Jeremy Welsh made good on their first powerplay of the contest and, just 52 seconds later, Matthew Myers had them suddenly enjoying a 2 goal spread.  Late in the frame, however, Flames powerplay went back to work and Levi Cable pulled them within one through 40 minutes.

At 46:32 Jamal Watson had them all square at 3 apiece, but just 81 seconds after that Panthers were back in front with a lead they would not hand over again thanks to Kevin Domingue.

Kevin Lindskoug turned aside 39 shots on 43 tries while Kevin Carr in Panthers net was 33 of 36.

“It’s disappointing to have fallen short on that one,” offered Paul Dixon.

“The guys worked hard to get back in it after being down a couple, and then to almost immediately hand the lead back again on what looked like a play that wouldn’t turn into much danger, is frustrating for all of us.”

“Tough outcome, but we’ll get past it and re-group for practice tomorrow as we start to look ahead now to Coventry stopping in for Cup action Saturday night in Guildford.”
