Petruzzelli signs on for 23-24

American forward Anthony Petruzzelli will line up with the Guildford Flames ice hockey team when the new season begins.  The 30 year old winger, outside of a 4 game stint in the AHL with Chicago Wolves during the 19-20 campaign, has spent the past 5 seasons at ECHL Fort Wayne Komets where he amassed 100 goals and 211 points in 323 starts. He followed the 20-21 Kelly Cup playoff championship term with his best individual season in 21-22 when he struck 27 times and added 30 assists for a 57 point haul across 72 games.  Last season, in the same number of appearances, the 5’10”, 190lb skater had 25 goals and 46 points.

He made his Komets debut in 2018 with 4 games just beyond the close of a 4 year collegiate stay at NCAA University of Vermont where he recorded 21 goals and 43 points in 140 games.

The native of Federal Way, Washington spent 3 junior seasons in Canada with AJHL Brooks Bandits.  In 176 games, he was nearly a point a game pace with 80 goals and 83 assists and picked up team and individual silver with the AJHL South All-Rookie Team nomination and AJHL Rookie of the year award in 2011-2012.  His team collected the playoff title in back to back seasons and were Canada’s national champion when they secured the 2012-2013 RBC Cup.  In 2013-2014, his final stint before heading to college, Petruzzelli was a League All-Star.

“Anthony has been an offensive force, and hopefully the way we like to play will really fit right in with what he does best,” said Paul Dixon.

“It is actually very rare to see a guy in the ECHL play for the same team for 5 years in a row, and 6 if you include his start with the Komets at the end of a college season. It speaks not only to what he has been able to do as a skilled player, but also to his leadership value that allowed him to become their Captain for the last couple of seasons.”

“We are looking forward to meeting Anthony and fitting him into a significant role where we know he will help us find a lot of success.”
