The talent pool on the Flames blueline expanded with the addition of Jordan Rowley.  The 29 year old Canadian Defenceman iced the last season and a half with Finnish side Pelicans and squeezed in 24 games at HC Bolzano in Italy between Liiga stops.  He spent 45 games in Finland’s top level in 2017-2018 where he had 2 goals and 9 points and opened last season in Italy before closing out the campaign with his Finnish return.

“I am excited to join the Flames,” said Rowley. “I am looking forward to getting over there and helping contribute to our success this season.”

Rowley spent 5 seasons at the University of Alberta from 2011 to 2016, winning back to back National titles in 2014 and 2015.  He also represented Canada at the World University games where they collected a Bronze medal in 2015.  The 5’11”, 185lb skater closed his collegiate career with 24 points from 25 games in his final season.  Across his 5 term stay, the native of Edmonton was a 2 time USports West 1st All star selection, 2 time West Most Outstanding Defenceman, a West 2nd All Star pick, and a USports All Canadian 1st and 2nd team award winner. In 127 USports outings, Rowley had 25 goals, 66 assists and 91 points.

Immediately upon graduation from the Bears, Rowley got his pro start with 3 games at ECHL Orlando Solar Bears before joining the Allen Americans for a 24 game playoff run where he helped them to the Kelly Cup title.

He moved on the following season for his first overseas venture at Allsvenskan Swedish side HC Vita Hasten where he had 19 points in 51 games to set up his move to the Finnish Elite level the following season.

His 5 season junior career was split between Western Hockey League’s Kamloops Blazers and Prince Albert Raiders where he scored 29 goals and 146 points over 312 starts.

“We have been close to having Jordan with us previously, but the timing wasn’t there to make it work out and we are thrilled that things have come together now to get him here,” recalled Paul Dixon.

“Obviously, he has a history of playing with several of our guys, and he will be an excellent fit in the room on that basis, but it is his ability that makes him such an exciting addition.  He is a highly skilled defenceman who can skate and move the puck, and he is very effective on the powerplay.”

“We already had one of the more mobile, skilled defensive groups in the league and Jordan unquestionably moves us up another notch by that measure.”
