Flames fell behind by a pair of goals at the halfway mark, but battled back with 3 unsanswered the rest of the way including the winner 6 seconds from time to secure a 4-3 Cup win over the visiting Manchester Storm.
Kyle Locke put Flames in front inside 7 minutes but an Alex Robert reply a few minutes later ensured the teams would go to break tied on a goal each.
At 25:18 Ryan Hughes put Storm in front. Near the midway point a Jake Durflinger powerplay strike had the visitors enjoying a 2 goal cushion, but a late Daniel Tedesco powerplay goal pulled Flames with a goal to start the 3rd.
With time getting scarce, Locke’s 2nd of the contest levelled it a 3 before Daniel Catenacci completed the comeback and the eventual win the dying moments decider.
"It was hard work getting there but a good result to send us into a week of training," said Paul Dixon.
"We did build a team that we thought could score more than last season and it was nice to see us pull back into the game and secure a win when it didn't look all that promising earlier on."
"It's early and a lot to work on but a win certainly helps with confidence and a good place to start building as we go forward in this competition."
