Tristan Frei Joins Flames

The Flames have come to terms with Canadian forward Tristan Frei.  The 25 year old centre iceman joins Spectrum’s men after 4 seasons with USports University of Regina Cougars.  In 4 seasons in his hometown, the 5’9”, 175lb skater registered 31 goals and 55 points in 109 games.  A highlight of his university stay was a trip to the World University Games with Team Canada where he had 2 goals and 3 assists while his side collected the Bronze Medal.

"First off, I would like to thank the Guildford Flames organization for the opportunity to be a part of such a prestigious program,” offered Frei. “I am really looking forward to working with Coach Dixon, as the team will work relentlessly towards a championship season. As a player I take pride in my work ethic, as well as bringing high energy, speed and grit to the lineup every single practice and game! I look forward to working with the community and bringing a championship to the city of Guildford!"

Prior to university, Frei iced 3 seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League where he helped lead the Melfort Mustangs on back-to-back league title runs in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, along with 3 consecutive trips to the Canadian Junior A National championships.  During his final stint in junior, he bagged 35 goals and 73 points in 57 starts to close his career numbers with 59 goals and 84 assists across 164 games.

“Tristan has good speed, and very good sense all around the rink, with and without the puck. He also is one of the hardest working guys you will ever see on the ice.”

“In junior he was an offensive star and was not only a captain at that level but also during his final pair of seasons in Regina, so he brings a leadership component to his game as well.”

“In University he played on a team that was not at the top of the table, and offensively they did not put up big numbers, but his track record even in those conditions and prior to that would indicate with the role he will slot into here we are likely to see him in a position to be very productive.”

“Having spoken to him, and being in on a variety of other communications, he is clearly a very high-quality character with a very positive attitude and a great desire to be effective and help the club win, and we are glad he has agreed to link up with us for the coming season.”
