Recap
Each team traded only a single goal, both in the 3rd period to force overtime and eventually penalties where visiting Amiens took a 2-1 win thanks to the same score in the tiebreakers. It was a nearly even split of 17 first period shots but Taz Burman for the home side and Taran Kozun for the French visitors turned aside all opportunities and repeated the feat in the session that followed to close out 40 minutes with both teams still each looking for their first goals of the contest. The scoresheet was finally marked in the 45th minute through Tyler Busch to give Flames a lead but it was relatively short lived thanks to a Bastien Maia follow up at 52:03 to set up tiebreaking measures. With nothing from overtime, except a Flames successful 3 on 4 penalty kill, a penalty goal by Matt Alvaro was not quite enough to cover return strikes from Janis Svanenbergs and Ilies Gauffriau. Burman turned away 32 of 34 shots against Kozun who was 35 for 36. Photos |
