Cardiff Devils blew the doors open on tight game by scoring 3 goals in less than 3 minutes early in the 3rd period on the way to a 4-1 win over the visiting Flames.
The game went 35 minutes without a marker thanks to Ben Bowns and Jake Kupsky. Devils finally got the opener late in the 2nd off the stick of Evan Mosey which stood as the only goal from 44 shots split exactly evenly between the sides across the 40 minutes of play.
The hosts opened their scoring taps to secure the win with the early period flurry. Brett Perlini doubled their lead at 42:18. Joey Martin made it a 3 difference at 43:58 and Cole Sanford had their 4th at 35:10. A late Flames powerplay broke Bowns’ shutout bid when Ethan Strang was on target at 57:27 to complete the final tally.
Kupsky stopped 32 of 36 shots while Bowns turned away 29 of 30.
“It’s pretty disappointing to go through the entire weekend of games and come away entirely empty handed,” admitted Paul Dixon.
“We came into this set of games feeling pretty good about ourselves other than a bit of a short bench that was at least a bit improved over the week prior. We were confident, and felt we had a good chance at banking points last night and here in Cardiff”
“It didn’t work out that way and now our job is to make sure this doesn’t deflate us entirely and simply get back to work this week in training with Nottingham and Fife on the next up agenda.”
