A late Jack Jacome goal tied it at 4 each to give a point to each side before overtime where Daniel Tedesco grabbed the 2nd for his team when he buried the overtime winner less than 3 minutes into the extra frame.
About 7 minutes beyond the start, and not long after helping get Paul Dixon’s jersey retired, Brett Ferguson staked Spectrum’s men to a lead. Panthers fired back a few minutes later through Kristoff Kontos, but a late period Sam Jones powerplay goal had Flames in front to begin the 2nd.
Just over halfway through the middle set, Mitchell Fossier was awarded a penalty shot that he made the most of to bring Panthers back to level at a pair each.
A late 2nd period Panthers penalty carried over in the 3rd and seconds into the extra man situation, Tedesco nudged Flames back in front. At 48:58 Oliver Betteridge squared it again. Panthers took their first lead of the evening short handed from Sam Herr in the 54th minute, but a Jacome reply inside the last 5 minutes knotted it at 4 through regulation to secure a point for both benches ahead of Tedesco’s overtime decider.
“That was an exciting game, and probably both teams were feeling good about at least getting a point before overtime because we both did enough to earn at least that,” said Paul Dixon.
“You always feel a bit relieved when you are trailing late to get that timely goal and then we had the bulk of the play in the short overtime and were able to make something happen there.”
“You always want to start the weekend with a win, and we are very happy to have put that one away on home ice as we now try to forget about it and look ahead to a long trip tomorrow to Fife.”
