Seven different goal scorers connected for Flames Sunday night as the home team delivered a 7-1 win over the visiting Fife Flyers.
At 3:13 Charles-Antoine Paiement put the road team in front, but about 3 minutes later, after a stretch of 4 on 4, and just as both sides went back to 5 skaters each, Travis Brown squared it. At 12:07 Brett Welychka gave Flames their first lead of the contest just as a powerplay expired, and a late Ryan Tait goal had Spectrum’s men up a pair to begin the middle set.
Some early period near misses for Flyers including an Eamon McAdam save on a penalty shot kept the 2 goal spread long enough for Josh Waller to expand the difference to 4-1 about 7 minutes after re-start. Just over 2 minutes from the end of the frame, Lewis Hook added another to open a 4 goal gap and 62 seconds from time Dan Catenacci made it a 6-1 count.
About 6 minutes into the 3rd, Fife Flyers looked to have cut into the deficit with a Tyler Heidt goal but a challenge of the play for goaltender interference went the way of Spectrum’s men and play resumed with no change to the overall count. Shortly after, Ethan Strang added the Flames final tally of the evening.
“Any time you can have a bit of an offensive burst, it is good for team confidence, and it is good to see a bunch of different guys chipping in on goals either with the goal or helping set it up,” said Paul Dixon.
“After a very busy holiday schedule, we are happy to close it out on a win ahead of our first full training week in quite some time. Having said that, is still only one game of many that we still have in front of us and what you want from a game like this is to take the good things with you into training and into the games coming up and hopefully get on a consistent roll down the final stretch.”
We only have one next weekend but it is a long journey to Glasgow and both of us are working around the same spot in the table so it will be an intense game with a lot to play for and we are looking forward to the challenge they present.”
