Eamon McAdam allowed just a single to support a pair of Matt Alvaro strikes and a goal each by Ethan Strang and Daniel Catenacci on the way to a 4-1 win over the visiting Manchester Storm.
Strang had the only goal of the opening a frame a bit beyond the 5 minute mark.
At 32:54 Alvaro extended the lead to a pair. Former Flames forward Ryan Hughes netted at 37:33 to cut their deficit in half, but a Catenacci reply less than a minute later doused the comeback effort and sent Flames to break with a 2 goal advantage.
Inside the back half of the 3rd, Alvaro’s 2nd of the contest converted a powerplay to nail down the final result.
McAdam turned away 30 of 31 shots while opposing Evan Weninger who was 23 of 27.
“The 2nd period was a key point where they really had us on the back foot for a lot of it, but Eamon made some crucial saves when we really needed them and we were able to put up a couple of goals even without being the more dominant team in that stretch,” explained Paul Dixon.
“It is a real positive to be able to push through moments in games where we are being driven back a bit and still find a way to come out on top.”
“Taking all 4 points across a weekend is exactly what you work all week in training to do so mission accomplished here and now on to next week at Belfast before returning here to face Glasgow Clan.”
