A couple of Cardiff Devils goals in short order late in the 2nd period extended a lead they would never give up on the way to a 3-1 defeat of the visiting Flames.
It took about 18 minutes for Ben Davies to secure an advantage for the home team.
Time was on short supply in the 2nd when a late pair less than 3 minutes apart from Tyler Busch and Cody Donaghey had them enjoying a 3 goal cushion at the last break.
Jack Jacome was able to cut into the deficit inside the last half of the 3rd, but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome defeat.
Eamon McAdam got the start for Flames and made 22 saves from 25 shots against Mac Carruth who had 23 saves on 24 shots.
“We are going to have to re-set quickly and get our heads right for Saturday night home to Coventry,” said Paul Dixon.
“We have been on a good run recently and felt good about going into Cardiff but it clearly didn’t work out as we had it planned out.”
“We missed some good opportunities to have a lead earlier in the game and then against the run of play they got in front and then they got a couple of nice bounces late in the 2nd to make the climb a bit too steep.”
“New day Saturday and we will be ready to go.”
